1. Innere Stadt, best area to stay in Vienna for first time. Let me tell you about my experience staying in Vienna's Innere Stadt, the city's historic heart. This area, stretching from the Danube Canal to the grand Ringstrasse boulevard, is a treasure trove of history and elegance.

Favoriten, specifically the area around Reumannplatz, can be less recommendable for tourists, especially at night. Although Vienna is generally safe, there is a tendency for a higher crime rate and a rougher atmosphere after dark in this area.

You should spend at least 3 days in Vienna to be able to see most of the highlights on a Vienna itinerary without feeling rushed. I did have to skip several things that I would have loved to do, so if you can spend an extra day or two, then I would recommend it!

The Austrian capital's compact layout puts most major sights within walking distance, making it easy to tick off the palaces, museums and opera houses in two days and still stop to taste the famous Sachertorte and Wiener Schnitzel.
